Summer 2008 Remedial Reading Program

The library has just concluded a four week remedial reading program. The program was designed to improve students reading fluency and writing skills. 26 children ages 4-13 participated and six high school students volunteered their time to act as tutors to small groups.

Yamisuri, she was able to read 10 more words a minute by the end of the program

Nahson and Jordan, both improved their writing skills and displayed great ideas in their journals


Rahim, Josue, and Danisha showed improvement in reading fluency and writing


Each student completed 5 reading assessments throughout the program, utilizing DIBELS, and received a final report of their progress, strengths and weaknesses, and special notes for their teachers to see for the 2009 school year. A special thanks to the volunteers of the program, Joshua, Jamir, Keysea, Hadassah, Giselle, and Monica!
